President Trump has an unlikely defender in former president Jimmy Carter. Carter stated that he believes the media has come down hard on the current president during an interview with the New York Times published on Saturday.
“I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve known about. I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation.”
In a breathtaking display of a lack of self-awareness, interviewer Maureen Dowd immediately turned to Carter’s wife Roslynn Carter, writing:
“Since Rosalynn’s focus as first lady was mental health, I asked her if we should break the last taboo and let presidents have a White House shrink.”
How hilarious. These journalists really have no sense of self if they can be criticized for being too biased one minute and put their flagrant bias on display the next minute.
To make things even better, Carter later admitted he didn’t even vote for Hillary Clinton in the primary- he voted for Bernie Sanders.
Jimmy Carter definitely had a lot of issues throughout his presidency, but it is a credit to his character that he did not jump on the Trump-Derangement-Syndrome bandwagon, and handled his interview with class, grace, and honesty.
