One White House official stated that President Trump has called off the Wednesday afternoon speech after a shooting at a congressional baseball practice.
The president was scheduled to speak at the Labor Department to enroll a new plan created to increase job training and apprenticeship programs and sign an executive order.
After the shooting, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, a congressional aides and others injured. The House called off votes, and hearings were cancelled in both chambers.
House Minority Whip Scalise was practicing at an Alexandria, Va., park with fellow Republican lawmakers for the yearly Congressional Baseball Game set to happen on Thursday.
The Louisiana lawmaker was reportedly in a strong condition, but is going through a surgery, as reported by his office.
Trump stated previously on Wednesday that Scalise “was badly injured but will fully recover.”

In a different statement, Trump said he was “deeply saddened” by the shooting.
We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” he added. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected.”
